We do our best work for those age 50 + and for federal employees. Whether you’re nearing retirement, or are recently retired, and have $500,000 of investable assets, our expertise will serve you well.

As financial planning consultants, we believe in long-term partnerships so we can serve you through all the twists and turns that may lie ahead.

The Challenge

Mike and Gloria just turned 55 and realized the clock is ticking when it comes to making sure their retirement plan is not only on track but will be as stress-free as possible.  Problem is they don’t have a real retirement plan in place yet and they think they might be taking too much risk with their investments.  Don’t even ask them about all the taxes they pay!

The Results

Like many, Mike and Gloria began their search for a trusted professional using Google. They searched the terms: CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ in Kansas City, fiduciary, fee-only network and experienced.  This search brought them to us. We had a Zoom call, and something clicked so we moved forward with creating a Retirement MAP.

The Retirement MAP not only educated them about their current situation, but also highlighted some red flags. The Retirement MAP motivated Mike and Gloria and allowed them to take charge of a situation that had originally felt overwhelming.

The Challenge

Bill and Mary are working hard as federal employees and want to make the most of their benefits while enjoying a wonderful retirement spent traveling and experiencing new things with family and friends. With the kids out of college and “off the payroll” they know it’s time to focus on their retirement.

They’re concerned about their Thrift Savings Plan — wondering if they’ll have enough money to have all the fun they have planned for retirement. They have often wondered if they should use one of the Lifecycle funds or create their own portfolio by using a mix of the individual funds offered. The stress is compounded by the question — Traditional or Roth?

They know there are important decisions to make on their pensions and social security accounts and while they’ve done their own research, they’re left with even more questions.

And what about taxes? Like everyone, they want to be as tax efficient as possible and are trying to figure out how to do this. They have also come across “Financial Professionals” who only want to sell them annuities and life insurance.

They’re frustrated and want to work with an experienced CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) in Kansas City— a true fiduciary who always has their best interests at heart.

What happened next

The Results

Bill and Mary’s Retirement MAP provided guidance around when they would have enough money to meet all of their goals. They decided this would be their retirement date, which was only a couple years away. With only two years until the big date, it was time to get to work on the recommendations.

Even though the recommendations were well-defined and easy to understand, Bill and Mary wanted to delegate the implementation, so they decided to hire us for ongoing help.

We all worked together to make their Retirement MAP a reality. Bill was happy that he took Mary’s advice because now Mary is much happier, and Bill feels confident about retirement.

Looking to have fun, travel, and try new things in retirement

The Challenge

Many of our clients have the goals of having fun, traveling, and doing new things in retirement.  These are very broad goals that need to be defined in a more detailed and coordinated level.

Making the transition from working to retired can be challenging.  It may be simple to understand what you are retiring from, but the harder question is what are you retiring to?  

It can take some time to figure this out —Many figure it out as they go.  But it all starts with an initial Retirement MAP, or what we like to consider a first attempt. 

As time passes, we learn more about ourselves and what makes us happy.  With these new findings come new goals and aspirations.  So, it makes sense to update a Retirement MAP so there is the best opportunity for success.

  • What new things will I do in my retirement?
The Results

A Retirement MAP with ongoing updates can answer these questions and more.  Here are some things to think about:

  • How can I front-load my expenses so I can experience new things while I’m still healthy and feeling good?
  • What is the destination of my once-in-a-lifetime trip?  When will I take it?
  • Can I buy a vacation home?  How much can I spend on it?
  • Can I afford to give to charity?
  • If I have a new goal that’s really important to me, do I need to sacrifice other things?
  • How do I achieve a balance of living for today and not running out of money?

Answers to these questions and others can help maximize the FUN of retirement!
